Launch It visualization



Data visualization is something that I have some interest in as it has a lot of design elements to it. These visualizations also attract the viewer more than just some data being presented. I take a digital tools class and we went into some data visualizations and we found some examples. The example I found to be most appealing was LAUNCH IT.











This data visualization I found to be really cool. The data it is presenting is the locations you can purchase a book, at first I thought this is a lot of work just to show where you can buy a book. The book, however, is about being a designer and creating graphics and visualizations. What better way to promote your book about design than using an interactive data visualization to show where to buy said book.




I played around with the LAUNCH IT for a little and it is very interactive and appealing. I think this a great example of a data visualization and also a great marketing strategy at the same time. The text and font give a very futuristic techy vibe to it as well. This data could have been easily shown in a list but that would be pretty boring compared to this.

Distant reading is taking a large body of text or database and looking at it as a whole and finding patterns within the writing. I find distant reading to be more interesting than close reading and it reveals a lot of information. This information would be very difficult to find out without the use of the Voyant tool. Voyant can be used for a variety of data including articles, lyrics, and books for example. I have used Voyant before once for the book Call of Cthulhu by H. P. Lovecraft and I found the data to be very helpful and revealing as well. The Thin Blue Line

The Thin Blue Line is a true-crime documentary where an innocent man was falsely accused and convicted for the murder of a police officer. The innocent man was Randall Adams. David Harris was the 16-year-old boy who got Randall Adams involved in the murder of the policeman. Randall Adams was out of gas and was walking to a gas station when David Harris offered him a ride in a stolen car. David Harris was then pulled over by a police officer without thinking David Harris rolled down the window and shot the officer dead. The partner of the policeman was believed to still be in the car at the time of the first shot. David Harris had most of his charges for multiple crimes lifted because of his young age. The filmmaker of this documentary makes use of a lot of words used as images. Most of these words are represented in newspaper clippings. About Me and Some of My Hobbies

Painting/Modeling   One hobby of mine that I put a lot of time  and dedication in is modeling/painting.  The bulk of the work I do is mainly Warhammer 40k models. My brother was the person that got me  into the hobby at first. At the start I just bought the boxes of models and I put a few together but I was not really into it that much. I started to paint and customize the models next and I really got to be creative for it and it made  me so much more motivated to do it.  Many days I will just listen to music and paint for some time. Dungeons and Dragons I enjoy being a creative and imaginative person. One way I  get to do this is through playing DnD.
